Title : Scales in the Lexicon
>>> Christiane D. Fellbaum <<<
Princeton University
Co-developer and director of Princeton WordNet
founder and president of the Global WordNet Association
Summary :
We discuss scalar predicates, focusing on emotion verbs. Such as like, love, and adore, and their representation in lexical resources. We compare partial orders and scales derived from corpora via lexical semantic-patterns (Horn 1972, Sheinman & Tokunaga 2009) as well as from human judgment in French and English. Finally, we examine the consistent alignment of scalar emotion expressions with emojis in internet communication.

NLP Talk Series (4)
Title: Continual Learning for Natural Language Processing Tasks
>>> BING LIU <<<
Distinguished Professor
Department of Computer Science
The University of Illinois at Chicago UIC
Summary: The classic machine learning paradigm learns in isolation, which is only suitable for well-defined narrow tasks in closed environments. It is far from sufficient for truly intelligent systems, which must learn continually, accumulate the knowledge learned in the past, and selectively transfer the knowledge to help learn each new task. The machine learning paradigm, continual/lifelong learning, aims to achieve these goals. In this talk, I will first introduce the context of and motivation for continual learning and then discuss some of our recent work on continual learning of natural language processing tasks.
