On this occasion the Congress’ policy and the scientific program was set on the basis of latest research and scientific achievements in the field of cardiology. According to Ms Mazidi, the Executive Secretary of the 21st ICCU, #registration of the 21st International #Congress on #Cardiovascular Updates is now accessible to physicians and nurses online, with the possibility of online payment through Shetab network cards. It is noteworthy that those who, prior to the congress, are able to register online by August 15th, they can take advantage of their card issuing through the automated issuance system at the time of the #congress. Honored participants will be able to receive a congress card by entering their national ID number. Those who failed to register before the congress will complete the registration process in congress days. All registered participants will gain announced CME points.
Physicians and nurses interested in attending 21st ICCU are kindly asked to register through the website of the Iranian Association for Atherosclerosis at www.congress.iranathero.ir.

🔻According to the Public Relations of the Iranian Society of Atherosclerosis, Dr. Massoud Ghasemi, on the eve of the 21st International #Congress of #Cardiovascular Updates (ICCU), mentioned: "A series of scientific, research and preventional activities for cardiovascular diseases is scheduled for this congress.

Dr. Ghasemi emphasized: "We need to have a uniform scientific level in the country, and at this #congress, we will try to train physicians in the most remote area of the country by new methods and techniques of treatment and surgery .

✅ Important Interventional Trials From #ESC #Congress 2019: The THEMIS-PCI

🔸The THEMIS-PCI (Ticagrelor in patients with diabetes and stable coronary artery disease with a history of previous percutaneous coronary intervention) report in Lancet1 found that the primary efficacy outcome (a composite of cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction [MI], or stroke) was lower in patients randomized to ticagrelor than to placebo (404 [7.3%] of 5,558 vs. 480 [8.6%] of 5,596; hazard ratio [HR] 0.85; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.74-0.97; p = 0.013) in the subgroup of patients with a history of PCI.2 However, THEMIS-PCI has major statistical flaws that limit its generalizability:

1.This was a subgroup analysis. The lay press understands that subdividing a main trial into subgroups is limiting because it introduces spurious results.

2.The p-value describing the interaction between PCI and non-PCI patients for the primary outcome was not significant (p = 0.16). ...
