🍃 The late Rashed recounts: It was mid-winter, and our firewood had run out. My father went to Karizak (Karizak-e Nagahani, a village in Zaveh Rural District, Razavi Khorasan province, Iran) to get some, taking me along.
🍃 An hour before the dawn call to prayer, we set off for Torbat from Karizak. If we waited for the sunrise, the frozen ground would make walking with the donkey through the flower-strewn paths difficult.
🍃 The night was bitterly cold; the chill burned ears, neck, hands, and feet. We had two donkeys, one carrying firewood and the other bearing me.
🍃 A man named Sheikh Habib, a friend and disciple of my father, accompanied us to the village of Hajjiabad.
🍃 On the way from Karizak to Hajjiabad, my father, walking on foot, continued to perform his nightly prayers.
🍃 As we reached Hajjiabad, the dawn broke, and in the cold, gusty wind that swept across the icy fields, drying the human body, the late Haj Aghond stood facing the qibla. Sheikh Habib followed suit, and first, the call to prayer echoed, followed by the iqama. With tranquility and humility, they prayed the morning prayer with the same devotion as always, unaffected by the severe cold. Meanwhile, tears streamed down my eyes, freezing into ice on my cheeks due to the intense cold.

Sayyid Sharaf al-Din al-Musawi, the author of "Al Muraja'at," shares a brief story: A wealthy Christian from Lebanon approached me and said, "I want to become a Muslim. What is my duty?"
I replied, "Perform the two units of Fajr prayer and the three units of Maghrib prayer." He exclaimed, "Muslims pray seventeen units of prayer!"
I explained, "Muslims have strengthened their faith over time. Initially, the Prophet recommended two units of Fajr and three units of Maghrib for new Muslims, as recorded in historical accounts. Now that you have embraced Islam, performing these acts is sufficient."
Gradually, this newfound Muslim gained strength, attended mosques, and, like other Muslims, observed the five daily prayers.
As the month of Ramadan approached, he came to me and asked, "Should I observe fasting?" I responded, "No, fasting is for seasoned Muslims. Early Muslims, after a considerable time since the Prophet's mission, were mandated to fast."
Determined, he said, "I want to fast."
I encouraged him, "Fast as much as you are prepared for." Following this approach, he successfully observed the entire month of Ramadan in his second year as a Muslim.
