Shaikh ‘Abdullāh al-Bukhārī حفظه الله تعالى delivered a lecture tonight at the Islamic University of Madīnah (broadcast as a live feed on YouTube also).
The lecture was a highly knowledge-based discussion revolving around the importance of Books in various capacities.
One key benefit - from multiple benefits in the lecture - was in relation to personal libraries.
Many brothers strive - rightly so - to buy books and build a personal library, it is indeed vital for any serious student of knowledge, however there are some who only have a rudimentary general knowledge and understanding of what they’ve actually bought and put in their library! They have no real detailed knowledge regarding those books.
Perhaps those same people go to the bookshops and ask for the new releases and latest books, yet in reality they barely know what the “old” books they already have are, let alone the new!
It is therefore important for every student striving to build a library that you pay attention to your books, read the introductions, read sections, and examine the contents carefully to have an understanding of what your books are. It is a strange affair that a person has books upon books and yet has little to no idea why he has them or what the purpose of each book is, or how to research via them, which books to look into for which issues etc.
May Allah give us insight & understanding of the vast ocean of books that scholars throughout the centuries authored and compiled for the benefit of the Ummah.
